Feel it! Frame it!

A DO's desk
What frames suit my face shape ? Do you remember this time old question. My answer to this question is - you must try different shapes on, as more than one shape and style will suit you.
I have just entered my forties and during my childhood and school days, I remember wearing glasses was not such a positive experience in school and outside and even in some families.
This is not the case these days thankfully. Spectacles are not the same anymore, and in fact the tide has reversed and wearing Spectacles could be considered a fashion icon.
My early years in Optics when working with Multiples in London, the training was always aimed at matching a shape of frame to a facial shape. This, in my humble opinion is no more relevant and practical in an Optician setting. Thankfully we have grown out of this and have learnt that this is not the case now.
If you like it, you will wear it!
The present-day frame selection offers a wide range, and it all depends on what look the wearer wants to project or just feel like at that moment. This can be a constant or change every two years or for those who have multiple pairs, can change every day.
Cost has become less of a consideration these days compared to two decades ago, when the price of a pair of glasses were very dear. Nowadays the prices of glasses have come down significantly, most people can afford to have more than one pair of glasses. And you do not have to pick a designer frame to get the same feel. There are thousands of frame manufacturers who make frame that let out the same feel.
Lens compatibility is still reasonably and understandably a concern. Those who have higher prescriptions will be familiar with the frames they have always been wearing and have been recommended. For example, those with higher prescriptions will be used to always having a plastic frame. However, if you select the right sized frame for a -6.00 prescription, then even a metal frame will fit the lenses reasonably well.
Cost and Lens compatibility are not fashion related, but I wanted to touch upon these as they are important and play a part in helping the wearer decide on their style.
Let us now dive into the deep world of fashion and glasses. The simple question is 'what do you want your look to be'
Every frame can be worn by everyone
Statement looks - Bold frames play an important role in standing out and making a statement. Due to the increased material that these frames are made of, they tend to be a little on the heavier side but are reasonably comfortable. Statement frames have always been in style and are here to stay.
These frames tend to portray a stronger message and it could be very easily spoken about relating to a particular person. For example, the fictitious character portraying Dame Edna Everage. The ever-stylish Edna Mode, animated or otherwise, had glasses that took up 50% of her face, and we all loved it.
On the other hand, we have the metal frames which have a large eye size, and they tend to bring out the wearer's natural look and at the same time highlighting their features.
The Work pair - They can either be boring or timeless, depends on your perspective. The frames that follow this section are of a modest size and do not fall into any extreme side of material, colour or shape. They are also lovingly addresses as a classic.
The Colour - Frames do not necessarily have to be neutral. Colour can also be quite preferred. This largely depends on the wearer's personality and what they want to express. These can be a weekend pair, but there are no rules. If you like colour, why not just wear it whenever you feel. Having brightly coloured frames have been in trend in recent years and have gained traction because celebrities wearing them.
The most important thing to remember is, what you are comfortable and confident and what works for your prescription lenses. It is as simple as that. Here in Specsonweb we have a range of frames that should give you a good variety of choices across the above categories.
