A DO's desk
Most people in their early 40's will discover that they need some magnification support when looking to read. This condition is called Presbyopia.
Ready readers or ready-made reading glasses are glasses that is made up only using the Spherical component of your prescription. In your prescription it usually is the first column and may be labelled as Sph. These pairs of glasses are mostly used by those who have been advised that they need Reading Glasses.
These glasses are made in volume and the most common prescriptions ranges from +1.00 to +3.50 Dioptres. The frame and the quality of lenses are not of any concern, in-fact these glasses are made with great materials, and they are often very user friendly. For example, you can fold them so thin, as-if they do not exist and they fit inside your pocket or bag easily.
However, there are two main factors that needs highlighting. Firstly, the prescription they are made of, does not have the full prescribed prescription. And secondly, the centres of the lens do not correspond to the centre of your pupils or eyes. These two factors will cause unnecessary distortions in your vision. However, as the human eye tolerates some level of deviation, the visual system adapts to this compromised spectacle lens.
Another important factor to consider is, these glasses can be purchased from a pound shop, and this means you can get a pair of glasses for £0.99p. Now if you compare this with the cheapest glasses that can be tailor made, then the cost could be a factor.
Also, when you have worn these glasses and have got used to them for many years, when you decide to get the correct prescription, then your eyes sometimes will struggle to adapt back to your own prescription. This can be very frustrating for you, especially when you have spent a lot of money for the first time on your glasses. This is where Adaptation is key and on average it takes 3-4 weeks for your eyes and brain to work together.
At Specsonweb eyewear, you can get your full prescription including CR39 lenses for a very reasonable price.
We believe that Vision is a very important sense, and this must be protected at all cost.
